Nosey Gouldian

I have a nesting pair of orange breasted waxbills in the same aviary as my gouldians and one of the males sits on their nest looking in and generally stresses them out. Is it likely that he may interfere with the eggs or the young when hatched?

Welcome Jimla ...he may interfere or his presence may drive the OB hen away from the nest . Can you remove the Goulds until the OBs have a chance to get their young to the perch ?

Hi Jimla,

Do you have enough nest boxes in the avairy for your birds....a minimum of 1.5 boxes per pair would be a good start. I'm not an OB expert, but I find that this sought of attention normally doesn't worry the other Gouldians nesting in my avairies....just keep an eye on your OB....if she remains in the nest then it is probably not bothering her....as a start i would put a few more nest boxes in their avairy...cheers, Paul

I can remove the Gouldian which I may have to do if he keeps it up. I will put some more nests in, and I have noticed he has started to pay a bit of attention to an available box.

Thanks for the advice
