Gouldian - Ichy legs/feet

Hi All,

I have got a silver hen, whom can not stop chewing her feet and legs.
I first thought the leg bands were annoying her, but they are on one leg only, and both seem to be ichy.
I have sprayed with tick and mite spray twice, as well as the other 3 birds in that aviary.
Although there doesn't seem to be any damage from her doing this, I don't want this to affect her breeding condition, for this season.
I am thinking of using Vercon S to clean the whole aviary, but seems drastic for 1 bird???????
Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Jason

Oil on the legs just in case it has mites . Any oil that is edible will do ie, olive oil .

If you have to spray the aviary an insect / mite spray might be better if its mites .

Just what I would do first up , not a vet . good luck .

Virkon S can irritate skin on contact. If it hasn't been wormed or treated for air sac mite recently, spotting some (1drop) Ivomectin (sheep & goat strength) on the skin on its back may be useful as scaly mite is another possibility which Ivomec should address whilst also worming & clearing any ASM. Scaly mite usually affects the feet, legs & face & causes irritation.

A drop of Moxidectin on the back of the neck or thigh will help if it's a mite problem.

Thanks Flavio,

We do get a lot of Mozzies at Mawson Lakes, so this could be possible, but something I never would of thought of.
After another mite and lice spray this morning, she seemed less irritated this afternoon.

P.S. With a BH WB silver hen, will she show signs of being in breeding condition. i.e dark beak
Or is she just blooming later than my other hens?
