Our painteds hatched one baby about a week ago but it looks as though they're beginning to build another nest elsewhere ..
Is this a pretty bad sign, or is it possible that they will still be feeding the young one?
We haven't seen them on the nest in the couple or hours we've been working out here :/

Hi Venetta, they my have got frightened by your avita, only joken I had painteds do the same thing. The cock would continue to feed the young whilst the hen sat on eggs in the new nest.THey survived, but i don't know if one would survive on it's own if the cock didn't sit on it at night, depends on your night time temperature. Cheers Craig

We might have to keep a close eye on em! Will check around roosting time to see if someone goes in with it and check again first thing in the morning to see if it has a full crop.. just don't want to have to go in to pry too much.. lucky we can see a little from the outside..
The birds will have never seen my Brucie boy (in the avitar), as he stays indoors and is extremely fat now lol
