Hi all
Not too long ago my white chested male gouldian lost a nail from his foot. It only took about a week to go from manky looking to black then dropped off. He was fine after this happened. Yesterday we noticed that he was holding his other foot up and not using it unless he had too. We caught him to check him over and his foot doesnt look too bad, but my husband said he may have broken a toe (perhaps).
Is this common in birds for them to break or lose nails at random??? We dont have anything that is dangerous in the cage for them to catch themselves on.
I have no idea how old he is but hes def not young.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreicated
Thanks in advance

gouldians sometimes like to stand on 1 leg, could have just been resting? unless something looks out of shape and he avoids standing on it for a few days then i would guess something to be wrong, at the moment though i would just observe and keep an eye on him.

Hi Jokengc
Its not that common to break nails but sometimes they catch
themselves on the wire of the cage especially if the nails are long
keep an eye on him but he should be right.
cheers flavio

Could his feet have been bitten by mosquitos? Does he have very scaley legs?
