This little thing just flew into the window and stunned itself.

I think Matty is spot on. Are there any bars or stripes on the underside?

could be - I didn't want to handle it too much and stress it so I didn't check it out fully for identifying marks.
but it seemed plain grey underneath
- maybe a juvenile one of these? http://www.climatewatch.org.au/species/ ... nze-cuckoo
wonder which wren here has been rearing it ?
real pretty in real life.

Just did another check to see if it was ready to let go.
It does have markings underneath.

Either Horsfield's Bronze Cuckoo or Shining Bronze Cuckoo. Depends where you are - Shining from eastern rainforest/wet schlerophyl areas, Horsfield's elsewhere.

Shining is virtually identical to Horsfields so its location would be the clincher.
