Over the last few days I have had people telling me I will need an import permit to take birds into NSW.
Wondering if there is any truth to this.

Wondering the same getting birds from Canberra ????

Tries google but they only cover country to country sometimes you gotta wonder about some of these rules .

Only registered natives for wilkdlife protection purposes. Otherwise any laws to impose interstate trade barriers (as an import permit at a cost would) contravene s52 of the Australian constitution.

Can you explain the $30 fee and two week waiting period that we have to endure in NSW? No other state has a fee anywhere near this cost and usually grant it within a day.

Mick you'll need an export permit to get them out of SA as well!

Be careful in NSW - you need a separate permit for each consignment which means if you bring your birds across in stages you'll need multiple $30 fees . You'll need to make sure the birds are brought across the border "at the same time" within the 30 day period of the permit.

It counts as a government processing fee, so it's actually a free permit with a processing fee for the application. But you keep quient Tint or the rest of will find our NPWS copying NSW .

Natives are not exotic birds, "exotic" refers to country of origin, not prettiness.

If a couple of country bumpkins can freight stuff all over the place , im sure city slickers can work it out, seriously its not that HARD.
Stop whinging.
1. Get a permit for the birds you want to send or import
2. Get a box to send them in .
3. Put them in the box and take them to the airport or go to the airport and pick them up.
4. Pick up the phone, and be nice to people on the other end,they have a job to do, its suprising how much difference that can make.

I freighted a few hundred birds before joining the forum , all states but Tassie , people make it sound way harder than it is.
