Hey all
At the young sale today, i was planning to get some peaceful doves...
After finding to my disappointment no peacefuls, I had a discussion with a breeder who had quite a few doves for sale... Bar shoulders, Diamonds etc.
After some thought, I purchased a pair of Sengal (Laughing Turtle) Doves, which he assured me will be fine in my aviary with my birds, despite their medium size.
Got them home, and I have decided these are my favourite birds I've ever had!
They are ridiculously tame, they will both sit on my hand, and if I leave the cage door open (they're inside in the sunroom where they'll be safe) they'll hop out, peck around on the towel in fron tof the cage or sit quietly on my lap.
I love them!
Beautiful colours too, trying to decide on names... decided on Phelia for the female, and trying to decide between sam, sandlewood and Pidge (imaginative but apt) for the male.
I'll post pictures in a few minutes, off to take some now

Not that I know of, he had five pairs so it would be some work.
Would someone just hand rear doves if they weren't kicked from the nest or something?
It wouldn't surprise me that much though, Phelia's that tame.... She doesn't like hand closing over her back though, just like every other bird. Male's a bit more independent and though will hop on your finger does not like to be carried.

Thanks
Laughing Turtle Dove?
Yes, sort of descending coocococococococooooooooo like a rather derisive laugh... or so it sounds in my recording, I haven't heard mine call yet
I just noticed the hen has some little tiny sprigs of what could be down - perhaps a young one? maybe that's why she's so trusting...

The hen? is very young as she has not got the adult colouring yet. Both sexes are the same. I'm surprised that they are so tame as they still have those wild feral genes that introduced birds have to survive in the wild. They are feral around Perth and surrounds. Nice looking birds though, a bonus that they are so tame.
