hi everyone,

i have a pair of gouldians that hatched 1 babie, it is now approx. 10-12 days off age, inspecting the nest today i noticed its not keeping its legs underneath itself, rather out to the sides, splayed legs or somthing its called????

the young one was hatched on basically the flattest part of the nest, and i think cause his the only one in the nest mum has still been sitting in at night( probs squashing him down, is their anyway i can get his legs back underneath him before its too late?

any tips or help is appreciated.

Foam leg collar is one way. You get a small piece of foam put 2 leg holes and push the legs through so they are in the correct possition. Budgie breeders do this sometimes. It does not always work, but is more successful if caught early. Must be careful to clear the vent so it is not fouled. Another method is a ring on each leg and tie together with wool at the appropriate width. Again more successful the earlier it is caught. Good luck.
