Hatchlings colours?

Just checked today and one of the boxes had 5 hatchlings. 3 were really light in colour (as in yellow/whitish) and the other 2 were really dark coloured. All healthy but does anyone know or seen something similar?

Good question Misso, but this is my quandary. 2 Cocks have been incubating and feeding. I have no idea who or what the hen is. They are both "yellow" of some sort or another. Actually one is near all white with a very light ring around a real light red head. Will get photos tomorrow to try and sort this out.

Thanks

Matcho

Some photos of the hatchlings and the two cocks.
The two cocks are not involved in the rearing of the chicks subject of this post.

Re previous post.

As i said in an earlier post I have no idea of the parentage of the chicks as it is nigh on impossible to see who enters the nest box. On the other hand the 2 cocks in the photos have been incubating and feeding at least three chicks in another nest and I have no idea who the hen is. Cant get photos of their chicks as they are in a wicker basket. Hope that makes things as clearer (as mud)

Really need some more info if you want answers to what the hatchlings could be, You have dilute euro yellow cock, Aussie yellow hen and other green backs in theat same cage.. The link I sent you describes how to identify young in the nest, paying attention to nodule colours, skin and wing colours

Mackstaa,

So are you saying that the second bird (white breast) is an AY hen and the first is a dilute euro yellow cock? Interesting. So the AY's beaks don't go charcoal grey but stay white with red tips? Naturally called it for a cock bird. Now my mind is starting to get muddled.

Matcho, I was thinking the same thing as you re the AY but know nothing about them. Would have guessed cock based on the beak colour...

Hi Matcho

I dont know much about Aussie yellows but I know Euro yellows dont have any green fowling on the back.
1st 2 pics the cockbird is a dilute Euro yellow or single factor.

The whitebreast yellow looks like a hen Aussie yellow.

Yellow skin looking babies are Euro yellowbacks, yellow centre nodules
yellow skin looking with white head feather babies with all nodules white are Aussie yellow.
Darker skin is dilute Euro yellow, yellow centre nodules
Darker skin with dark heads are greenbacks, yellow centre nodules. Can also be muddled when you introduce white breast to any of them.
Laymans terms :)
