Just saw these 2 ads for Rainbow lorikeets for $10 & $15 each respectively
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/villawoo ... 1000385209" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am sure they are all aviary bred- not!

They should lock these scumbags up. They have no place in our hobby!!

Just as obvious is an ad on Petlink for the past month or so for Chestnut-breasteds $10 ea & 120 of them available. Gympie area. One of the 2 most declining native finches according to Joe Forshaw.

Chestnuts and redbrows are periodically offered for sale in SE QLD at ridiculously low prices and large quantities as Tiaris has mentioned.
You also notice that these same sellers don't have any other finch species for sale, or if they do ther are zebs etc.
Good on you Deb for alerting the Dept. At least then they have no excuses- except that PROVING that they are wild caught is nigh-on impossible unless they catch them in the act.
The fact that they have no nestboxes available and no often no juvenile birds is not enough.
But if they know that someone is on to them then maybe they will think twice before doing it.

I have also seen rainbows for sale at the Sydney Markets for $15-20 each, again in large numbers. If they are that brazen about it then they're not too worried about getting caught are they?

I would think if they can't show the authorities the 5-10 adult pairs and the aviaries set up to breed the birds then there would be a pretty good case for them being wild caught.....after all if they are eing bred then you would assume they would have the set up :)

I'm not stressed out by it all Arthur, I'm just surprised that they don't even make a slight attempt to be a bit circumspect about it.
