Hey, i am getting 2 pairs of mannikins tomorrow. i am just wondering how hard are they to breed and what nests do they prefer.
are they anything like bengalese?

Are they just as easy as the bengalese to breed then? I currently provide open canary nests to my bengalese which they seem to prefer. Im thinking that these birds would prefer a nest box?

not yet as i not bought them yet. But they are the chestnut breasted variation

Tintola, judging by where this topic is I think we can safely say he means chestnut breasted mannikins.
Chestnuts prefer to build their own nests in brush, and certainly aren't as easy as bengos... depending on what conditions you are able to provide
Just to be clear, chestnut breasted mannikins are very much NOT bengalese.

Crossed wires! I thought he was talking about Bengalese Mannikins. Nowhere in the initial posts were Chestnuts mentioned. Jayburd's got it covered. I didn't see that it was in the Chestnut section. My fault grovel, grovel.

The chestnuts i have breed have used the brush in the shelter or in the open flight to build there nest never a box .
Work smarter not harder !

I have standard breeding cages. with the boxes hanging on the outside
