Gouldians and green food

I have no luck getting my gouldians to eat anything but soaked seed and the new seed sprays from ''fountain grass" which they love. Would this count as green?

maybe you should ask the people that you bought them off, what they were feeding them before:)

Hi Firetail,

Can I suggest endive...My gouldians go mad for it! And the gouldian gurus I know, love the stuff And it also is so easy to distribute, one leaf per cage (depending on size, young etc...) It's the one bit of green food/soft food I can guarantee that my birds will go for......
Just had a brainwave...how about I shred endive into their softfood mix, then they may be as excited about the softfood as the endive! Any thoughts??

Cheers
Ripley

Certainly wouldn't hurt, the endive would get a coating of the softfood and as the endive is a known and liked food...fingers crossed. If it works, you will have an entry vehicle for lots of other food they wouldn't normally try. Let us know how you get on.

I'd be surprised if they didn't eat Green Panic, Summer Grass, Panic Veldt, Barnyard Grass seed heads or Chickweed.

They love Guinea Grass, and if we are talking about the same thing Green Panic is GG's little brother

I've had silverbeet in pots for a while now, and would occasionaly pick off a leaf and hang it up in the aviaires. Not much would have a go at it, and it would wilt and end up on the floor where the quails would grab it. I did put in a whole plant for a day, to see if that made a difference... Came out in the afternoon, and the whole thing had been DEMOLISHED. Nothing left. I was amazed. So, my advice, grow (lots of) plants in small pots and rotate them through the aviary if at all possible!
