These were aviary bred, they are very happy in a small cage at moment till their new aviary is built...I think they are a very placid finch (after a couple of days to get used to you)only time they spook is when I change seed and water dishes (with my hand in cage)otherwise they just sit on the perch and just look at you...(I found the same with the wild ones near Darwin too..they just sit in a low bush looking at you unless you approach too close then they just fly a little further away...I also love the males song...sounds like a wind up toy

They like charcoal and are messy nest builders..huge nests too...I usually give mine paperbark strips, small charcoal pieces (about 3-6mm sizes) feathers, and long strips of grasses to build with..and just the normal finch fair they like live foods when breeding but I have bred them without livefood...just seed and greens etc..I get a lot of cuttlefish from the beach they tend to demolish that.. if you can breed zebs and gouldians I think you would have no problem with these...You need dry aviary as they spend a lot of time on the floor...even the young straight out of the nest tend to hang around the bottom of the aviary as well..

Have to agree. Nice placid little finch. Biggest problem is not stepping on them, cause they trust you to walk round.
