Mine would use a small cane nest...or would take over and refurbish an Emblemas or Cordons nest..

They go nuts for old abandoned weaver nests, but in absence of that cane baskets would do. Or they'd make their own nest in brush

I've found mine to prefer a cane basket placed in some brush to be their liking, also have found they like to take over and refeather old abandoned nests such as my stars painteds ECT. I have seen them build in brush but not as often as using cane baskets or abandoned nests.

This nest has produced a couple of babies and the resident pair have another clutch of eggs in there at the moment. Its actually upside down but its attached to the branch by the metal loop and supported by the branches. Personally I think its better this way, makes the whole thing deeper.
EDITED after reading finchbreeders comments on height position of nest.
This nest is in the middle (height wise) of the aviary, there are other ones higher they could have chosen.

When I had orange breasts they made their nest in grass as low to the ground as possible. May have just been the pair I had. Try supplying lots of couch grass.
