I came home today and one of my Parrot Finches was looking sick, after just walking in there and picking him up off the perch I've brought him inside, and he's is a room with a heater and a lamp. I've given him some spark.

I think he might have Coccocidos, but I'm not sure, because of that I've put spark in, rather than Baycox, do you think it would be worth swapping the water, or should I just hope that the warm and the dry will perk him up abit. Also, should I give him some seed? Or should I wait a few hours?

In the last week it's rained nearly 50mm (not including today). Hoping it's not too late, I've never been able to just pick up a bird before.

He's already gotten a lot better, flying around and perching. Compared to when I found him, under grass, soaked and unable to fly more than a few seconds.

I always supply seed, no harm in it. Can't comment on treatment though sorry.

Cocci kills and fast . Even faster in a little finch I imagine . Me myself suspecting Cocci and for the sake of the rest of the flock would be having a float test done on the birds poop ....Just my opinion .

Treat him with spark,keep him warm.What are his droppings like,Is his breast bone thin?

Keep the food and spark up. It is amazing what a little bit of warmth will do. If he was wet and fuzzy you have saved him for the time being. If it has a wet and dirty vent then you may have cause for concern for coccidiosis. When they are wet and in cool weather they lose body heat so quick because of their metabolism. Did any other birds have the same symptoms? Could it be age? Mate, I know the weather in Sydney is not going to be kind to us in the next week or so. Thank god mine have perspex panels which keep the warmth in and most of the damp out but I wouldn't be surprised to lose one or two birds. Good luck with the little one.

IF the bird displays any symptoms of Cocci you dont have the luxury of waiting to see what happens ...
