When do Budgies breed ?

In my experience all year round except when they are moulting Craig

They will start at about 3 months old or younger and mine seemed to prefer autumn/winter.

After rain I would usually give them a heap of greens for the following week. And by heap I mean more than normal. I would also change the branches in the aviary to fresh green ones.


This used to send all 30 of my budgies into a breeding frenzy almost instantly regardless of the time of year. I usually only did this in spring or summer though (and possibly autumn) as I found some of the weaker hens would struggle.

Does this apply to bush Budgies also ?

That is what I was referring to.

Cool thank you ....they're in and out of the box so was just wondering if winter was a good time for them to be breeding ...all good.

They breed out here anytime of year, as long as we have had decent rain (wild ones that is). Mine have been slow to get going and im not sure why ?

We had a couple of days rain and they always get greens daily so fingers crossed .
