Hi all,

I just wanted to share my news about my little goulds. One of my chicks from my very first attempt at breeding gouldians is starting to get colour already. It fledged about 2.5 weeks ago and I noticed some specks of black on its little head today. At first i thought it had something on it's head, but a closer look revealed black feathers. I can't wait to see them all coloured and know what sex they are. :grinhappy:

It won't "colour up" for several months yet. If a feather is lost it will grow through as the adult colour so it probably lost a few feathers in a disagreement with its siblings and the replacement ones are adult colours. Unusual but not uncommon.

Some people pull a few breast and head feathers to get identity & sexing colours showing, not sure that I like that practice though.

Good on ya, nice when things go right. If they are the parents in the picture at the bottom and they parents aren't split for any other colour good chance they will end up like them.
