Last night I candled some Quail eggs from the incubator and found them to be DIS .
Nothing to suggest why , however the eggs reeked of chlorine . Now common sense tells me to use bottled water in future but would the chlorinated water have been the culprit ? Could the chlorine have built up enough to poison the unhatched chicks ?

They were Japs eggs from my own girls ...

Hi Deb,

Did you happen to clean the incubator before setting the eggs with bleach or a chlorine-based disinfectant? This may have left a residue which became volatile once the temperature in the incubator increased.

It is normally recommended to use distilled water in incubators.
