When feeding Mealworms out to a large collection every bird goes to the feeder and in a short time all the worms have been eaten and the birds needing more through the day miss out.
There is a simple way Get a reasonably thick sided plastic lidded container.
Vertical in height rather than the flat type. At the edge where bottom meets the sides drill 2 to 4 holes (1/8th drill size) smooth any rough parts of the small hole. Once this is done place it in a tray in your aviary, put the Mealworms in it and over the hours they will crawl through the holes and the birds wanting them through the day soon learn to grab them as they emerge.
The more holes the quicker the worms will appear.
And the cost, free if you have the bits
This does work as I have seen it used in a large flight housing well over 200 finches

ok i have tried them with mealworms and its a success. still needing to tryu maggots and termites though. but even if they only work on mealworms im sure any one would be happy to use them seen they will save a lot of young deaths in the nest. so thats why im going to get into them. i am going to get a shipment in of 50 to sell onto fellow finch and softbill breeders Australia. i have a special offer for the members of aussie finch forum. but ill post that under the for sale section
thanks chris
