My question is , is it better to have single pairs of st helenas or to multiple pairs.......Pete

Saint Helena's are like Zebs double bars and redbrows, very much a colony bird. I think they stimulate each other to breed too.
I think best results might be had by one pair a flight, but certainly they enjoy the company of others of their kind more than other birds. Perhaps a pair each in adjoining flights?

If you want to breed Pintailed Whydahs you need a colony of St Helenas ,10 or more pairs are required and they will breed freely
so the answer is yes, BUT I personally feel you will get bigger clutches fledged(5) and more often with one good pair to an aviary.
So the answer is YES and YES

Thanks guys , I have had a pair for a little while now , they make lovely nests and have had trouble with mice in that cage up until recently , its just that I have been reading that they do better in colonies and was interested in others thoughts, so I will keep it as one pair per cage for now .

Yes Eorix that would be a future goal to breed pintails down the track pending on my local requirements / authorities ... Pete

I have three pairs in my mixed aviary and have bred good numbers, found that they breed better in a group than one pair.

Shox, will use that as my excuse to hubby. And add another pair to my existing pair to stimulate them then.
