My young gouldians range from hatched end of Feb to the latest lot hatched end of March, some of them are just starting to moult (a few black feathers on the head....max)
How long have I got before I have to worry about who is pairing off with who, cos I havnt got my cages made yet....Im hoping to get ideas and/or cages from the bird sale in the Barossa at the weekend.
My Dad has offered to make a couple of cages for me (when I can make my mind up exactly what I want)
I do know where to get some wire cages at a reasonable price if things get desparate. I had planned to get one wire cage to use as a hospital/quarantine cage, but at 24x18x18 I think it would be too small for medium term living

They wont reach full adult plumage untill the end of the year.But can still breed while not fully coloured up.I would think they would not be ready to breed untill late in the year.And would not hurt to keep them from breeding untill after there first full moult.

I seperate my juvenile gouldians as soon as I can pick the sex. like Gomer said try not to let them breed until after the first complete moult

I would wait until January or February next year before allowing them to breed.
That will allow them to get through there first molt.

yep give them a chance to fully moult before breeding much safer on the hens that way. when i kept goulds if i managed to breed them in autum / winter they would be almost fully coloured by late december but it would take a lot longer if they were born in december...pete p.s its bee a few years now since i have had them......
