I`m new to breeding Gouldians just woundering if anyones had any luck ? If so could you give me any tips.

Mine really liked soaked seed, have you got any of that in there with them?

Hi Joe,

I too have just started to breed gouldians this year...After twenty years, I decided to get back onto bird, hence Gouldians....
Ii believe the problems, I have had this year were, fistly, trying to get a diversified flock of birds, namely, no blood related birds, secondly, I have invested in young birds(most birds were finishing their juvenile moult) so, therefore, I do don't have experienced birds & lastly, the first birds I bought last year, came from a dealer & not the breeders...i've lost three birds this year....and...they all came from a dealer.....my advice would be, buy from the breeders...
I've spent hundreds of dollars at the vet & I'm sure that next year will be better....I'm hoping that this coming Monday, my birds will be placed in new flighted aviaries to make them fitter & more conductive to breed next year...

Advice, build your avairys where they get morning sun into them. Gouldians so like to defrost in the morning sun.

I breed gouldians in cabinets and avairys
In cabinets its a lot more work than avairys i put my birds that go in cabinets 3 weeks before
the start of the breeding season so they get used to the cabinets remember some birds like cabinets
and some birds do not. You have to monitor them, you have to see with the birds you have do not get too stress out.

One problem is with breeding in cabinets is when the young come out of the nest and the perents
go back to nest and the young are not ready to separate from the perents they go back in the nest box
and dirty the eggs or brake them.
In cabinets you have to give them the same things you give in the avairy eg. soft foods, seeding grasses etc.
With my birds as soon as the breeding season is finished they all go back in avairys to get exercise and moult out.
