One of my new Red Faced Parrot Finches lost an eye some time in the past 48 hours. The eyeball appears to be completely gone, with a slight depression around the general area as well. The bird otherwise seems fine and is acting normally. In all my years of finch keeping I have never had this happen. How does it usually happen? Has anyone witnessed it happen?

I feel so bad for it.

Never had an eye disappear have had eyes swell up. For it to come out guess it would have had to been pulled out by another bird or getting a twig stuck in it. Are you sure that's it still not there.
