Does anyone know where mini mealies and mealworms can be ordered in bulk? I haven't been able to get them for such a long time now?

I think it might be for at least a month because there was an infestation of lesser mealworms in the major suppliers ie. PISCES. Everything has had to start again. Thats what I was told and when I got my last supply the little brown buggers comprised over half of the container. That was 6 weeks ago.

Shaun, most of us have been scrounging for months now as matcho said. Do a search, here for "mealworms" and then contact everybody already suggested. I've had mine coming from all over and have been in desperate strife once or twice (paying $10 for 50g tubs at the local reptile place), the secret seems to be order smaller quantities from several suppliers and you'll get more success that way. Only direct advice I can give is that "Martyn's Mealworms" aren't even bothering to respond to emails for orders for months now so I suspect he's gone for good.

same here-the local pet store jacked the price up to $8 for 10gms. best advice is to try every outlet possible. also i topped up with crickets and maggots which helped to fill the gap as it is in the middle of the breeding season here in the tropics as well. i also set up a big fruit fly bin in the big aviary which was very much appreciated by the jacarinis. on apersonal note i was also very gratefull to one of the forum members who offered to freight maggots up to me from their reserves to help me out. makes you realise and appreciate the great people on this forum.

Hi Guys
It's been ages since I have been back here. I have some suggestions for you people who live in the city. I breed my own worms & found the originals in my machinery shed around the feed bags. I collected the beetles & started my own farms ---- now have 3.
My suggestion is to people who don't have the ability to do this, buy a container of mealworms from your supplier. Keep them out of the fridge & in a warmish place, put them in a fish tank or one of those plastic storage boxes you buy at the discount shops. Add a few inches of pollard & tip them in. Even though it is a slow way to start, the weather is warming now so they will pupate change into worms & away you go. I water them by using apple, carrots & some people use potato pieces.Put some paper on top & they will hide in it (as worms) making harvesting easier to do. It is still frosty here on some morning & mine are in the kitchen & I am getting the odd pupae at ATM. You should have worms of various sizes by December. When I started mine I was finding about 60 - 100 beetles every second day. I hope this helps someone out there

Dropped by the pet shop the other day and it appears that PISCES is back on line with mini mealies. Picked up a small container for $11, bit pricey but when some were put in the avairy, stars, painteds and even some of the goulds were straight on them like seagulls on a hot chip
