I am looking at buying a pr of reasonable quality binoculars for bird watching eg gouldian finch count etc .I dont want a cheaply made pr or a very expensive pr as they wont get used enough to warrant a high price tag.Here is one pr I am looking at does anyone have them ? And what are you twitchers/birdo's out there using ? Or what would be suitable under $300 ?

We used to sell the Tasco as good value for money. Pentax lenses, good build quality.
Binocs are vVery hard to buy online I reckon without "using" retailers as they can be individual as to what feels right in you hands regardless of specs. Speaking as someone who would lend hours demonstrating to people who'd then rush outside to google a better price .

One thing that will become important is detail vs wide angle, wide angle better for "finding" birds, surveillance will give you better detail but less room to find bird in field of view.

Get down to your local hunting store and see what they have.You really need to try the pair in your hands and on yours eyes to see if they suit you. A 24 mm lens may be had to hard to follow a bird on the wing. As said in the other thread 8x or 10x are most suited to bird watching.

I can't comment on Steiner as a brand but as with all things, you get what you pay for.

I'm not familiar with the brand but that price seems a little high to me for how they look...

Thanks for your info ordered these below today.They are made in Europe still like the likes of Swarovski & Leica & Carl Zeiss .The others are now made in China of comparable price.Apparently they started making the skyhawk pro but the market dictated they make a limited release each year of this particular model as it is what people want for birding in that price range.

Very nice optics, you'll enjoy them. Glad you adjusted your budget to make the exercise more worthwhile .

You should blitz them as the gold medal winner for most birds seen at The Count now .
