I've found them far more seasonal than the other Coturnix - usually Sept to Dec up here. Plenty of cover - a pile of straw in the corner is appreciated.

Love too, but haven't been able to get my hands on a hen for the one & only cock I breed about 5 years ago.

Hi Danny in reply to your post if you want to get results with most quail hang a 25 watt globe in one corner of aviary on a timer to extend daylight hours and they will lay like mad I had a lot of success years ago with Bob Whites and Californians I read it in a book on Jap Quail but you will need an incubator of some type they lay like mad some pairs will set but most will not gather up the eggs and you will be surprised how many will be fertile hope this has been of some help gouldian 06

Hi Gouldian 06 and thanks for your post,

I think you will find that Danny is very experienced at breeding quail and has more Jap quail than you can poke a stick at.
This makes his comments re Stubble Quail even more pertinent.

It would be interesting to also hear from breeders in the southern parts of Australia.

There's a time and a place for everything Crocnshas ;-)

I can appreciate them in the wild, in an aviary and on a plate.

Cost me a girlfriend once!!

Some people just don't get it!
