Today i was moving some young Zebs into a holding cabinet,when i noticed my prized Zebra Hen stuck on then wire,the wire somehow got caught between her leg ring i carefully tryed to help her but it started to bleed.She can not put her foot on any perch.When i caught her i could see the break in her leg just above her ankle.
I have her in a cabinet by herself,not sure what to do now ,she can fly.
I tryed to get some pics but not good quality.

Sorry to hear that Harv but keep in mind they can be tough as old boots so if you are able to do a little first aid maybe the leg can be somewhat repaired .
Ill add some more google bits and pieces as I find them OK .

Ideally I would say take it to the Vets but I know Dad wont like that so lets see what you can do at home . ( no offense Brett , Id have to think hard before taking a finch to a vet too )

If it is snapped right through.I usually cut the leg off at break with scissors and dip in Iodine.

They get around fine.Some still breed usually hens.

As Finches247 said earlier it is usally best to cut the foot off if it is broken right through and near the foot. If it was the top of the leg then I would try splinting. Put some iodine or watered down Dettol on the leg.

I have had a canary previously that I cut the foot off and it bred well for years afterwards. I put a shelf in the breeding cage, across the perches, so that it could sit on the shelf rather than on a perch.

I have an OB with only one foot and he gets around the aviary that well you would have to look twice to notice any difference. He is currently sitting on eggs, and has produced babies before.

When it comes to cutting off the foot with scissors, best thing is to heat the scissors over a flame so that as you cut it cuaterises the wound, I've had to do it a few times too, they usually cope fine.
