I'm sure other people might have noticed this but just incase many have not i thought i'd post it anyway. i keep several gouldians in a cage which i let out often to free fly, they know the cage and its entrance really well so i never have to catch them when i want them to go back in. Anway the other day i put a new pair in with them (male and female RH) so after being in there with them for a few days i decided to open the cage door and let them all out if they wanted. The usual birds came out first and had their regular fly around the room, then come out the new RH male. Watching him attempt to fly it was obvious the previous owner never let the bird see much past a 1ft long cage where i got him from and soon crashed and burned. Sitting on the floor gathering his strength he finally managed to fly on top of the cage. After a few minutes he decided to try and go back into the cage but was unable to find te entrance, 2 Hens that have been housed in the cage for a long time decided to come out and help. Each taking turns flying up next to the male and then flying back to the entrance. They were back n forth for a few minutes until the new male decided to cop them and finally entering the cage. Once he was in the 2 hens followed him in and all sat together on their swing. I just thought this was amazing to watch and never seen anything like it so i thought i'd post it here. Has anyone else eperienced something like this with gouldians?

And they say animals are a stupid species ! I quite often witness my dogs, and even my pet ferrets, doing things you would never have thought possible - but there we are ! We not the only ones with brains !! I think thats rather sweet, the hens guiding the new male around his new home. I have seen my own birds do things that have had me mesmerised, for my cages are right where i can see them all the time ( right outside my kitchen window ! ). Its quite rewarding to witness behaviour that gives them individuality and personality. Thanks for sharing !

When you spend as much time with your critters as I do you notice some amazing things that I hadn't noticed working .
They are incredibly clever and resourceful all of them , fur , fins , feathers and scales .
