Hi,

I was just wondering how is it possible to destinguish the hens of a uraeginthus bengalus, a uraeginthus angolensis and a uraeginthus cyanocephalus, since they all look a like...
Or they do not??

Regards
Gustavo

Hi Gustavo,
There is a difference between Cyanocephalus and Bengalus in that the hens of Cyanocephalus have a Blue forhead, while most Bengalus do not.
As for Angolensis, not sure - we don't have them in Australia anymore.

Angolensis hens have the blue limited to the face, throat, sides of throat and breast. The flanks and the belly are cream buff. The Blue on the anglolensis hens have the brightest blue

Angolensis have very prominent intense blue with a far bigger blue area particularly on the breast, have a darker bill & slightly shorter tail with an overall more cobby shape.
Cyanocephala have the palest blue more extensive on the head compared to bengalis or angolensis, are larger overall with longer tail & brightest pink bill.
Bengalis are the smallest in the body & have pink bill with dark edges.

Ok
Now that all of you described it, it is much more easy to see the diference.
ThankĀ“s.
