good news today. about 9.30am i went in the aviary to feed the finches and this guy was sitting on the perch. excuse the photo but at this stage thats the best i could do.
very flighty and hit the side of the inside shelter. parents are still feeding several young in the same nest so it will be interesting to see what i've got.
no front bar what-so-ever so markings wise he is well ahead of his parents .
two hour later i went back and look another look. this guys a cracker! very well marked - no front bar - white ring around its neck - white wings and tail.
now all ive got to do is hope he goes the distance with his first time parents.

thought they were the same bird but upon looking at the face mask i think i have two different birds

Time to put out some favourite food and see if two pieds turn up. Pretty bird, looks nice a healthy too.

I just have normal diamonds. Am I correct that this pied mutation is dominant? If so then is the extent of the markings related at all to whether the bird is single or double factor pied?That is, is it likely this bloke is a double factor pied or am I just rambling (yet again )?
