for the last few days I've been supplying coarse grass (thanks MM btw!!) for the finches, but this morning I put in a load of swamp grass.
In seconds, finches were all over it!! the parroties and saints seemed more interested in a feed from the seeds on it, but the redbrows took bits and flew straight up to the perch and started dancing!!
most excitingly though, the male cordon has been carting bits to a wire brush holder all morning - I saw him dancing with a feather two days ago, but didn't see mating.
The nest is in a very good position - I can see it from my sunroom (with binoclars) so I can keep tabs on them without any disturbance.
fingers crossed!!!!
cordons nesting!!

I hope so too!! I can also see through the back of the brush to it, so I can see he needs to line it out a little more before eggs
Now, it had bloody well better be sunny tomorrow, or I won't be able to give them termites on sunday!!!

Don't worry, Jay, the weather is rotten but the charts and radar look promising.
We can still fetch some in the morning if there's the odd shower, but heavy rain would be problematic.
Good timing by the cordons, they must have heard you talking about our foraging expedition.
Mine have been building this week, too, but of course they built in the flight
Love the idea of watching the nest with binos from the bedroom!

Honestly, the birds do this just to make things problematic I swear!!

It's great - you'll have to come round sometime! Both the sunroom and my bedroom look out onto the aviary, although I can't see much from my bedroom.
Thanks Henry

Looks like my first breeding season is going to be a good one!!
