Hi. I have what appears to be a normal female grey zebra finch except that she has heavily defined fawn cheek patches and am wondering what best to mate her to. I've been breeding finches, budgies etc for years as a hobby but have never been serious about line breeding, mutations etc. I'm still trying to get my head around zeb genetics but I'm not sure with this one. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Dave , with out a pic up its pretty hard but if it has fawn cheek patches and definatly a hen its 995chance thats its a red breasted zeb hen , they have a buiscut coloured cheek patch.... pete

I put this one awhile back and its a wild bird. Does it look like this ?

but then again without a pic as there is a bit of differance between the 2...the zebra should be re named the mystery bag of the finch world...pete

Thanks for your replies. I will post a photo but I may not be able to until the weekend as it's generally dark by the time I get home from work most afternoons. Sorry but I got impatient and posted my query all the time thinking it would help to have a photo. Thanks for the photo that was posted, but my hen's cheek patch is a very defined fawn colour surrounded by grey. I took a double take the first time I saw her as the variation in colour is exactly like that of a male.

If its a Red Breasted Grey, Reds are Recessive.

Finally able to post some pics... Anyone able to offer some advice as to what the line is and what I should b best to breed them to would be appreciated.
