Well after 6 years of putting our budgies out side to get some fresh air and sun one of them was attacked by a butcher bird but our staffy intervened,unfortunately the bird died latter that night.
RIP Lucky.

Sorry to hear that. Most of us have had problems with them at one time or another.

Sad to hear but a common problem especially now at breeding time .
Ive been losing baby Zebra Finches to them the last few weeks , touch wood the Budgies jump back into the nest box till the threat passes .

Only thing I can suggest is to drape bird netting over the cage / aviary .
This has worked for me where plastic eagles , owls etc have failed .

Cheap as chips to buy and just roll it up and store it when not in use .

Oh just have to say that when they arent harassing aviary birds , Butcher Birds are absolutely gawjus additions to the area with the noises they make and a pretty bird to .
We have black and Whites and a beige and white type here .

The black & white ones are pied butcherbirds.

The "beige" and white ones are probably grey butcherbirds where the juveniles are a browner colour.

You are right though- beautiful in the garden, so long as they stay away from the aviaries!!!
