Because I'm getting another aviary (4 all up) I want to keep some parrots in the 4th aviary.
I like red rumps but don't know if their good for a beginner (easy to care for, easy to breed), and would like something rather than Budgies or cockatiels. (I've kept and bred budgies for 3 years)

Try some bourkes, they are beautiful birds

Red Rumps can be aggressive sometimes to other birds and other pairs of red rumps.Try some Bourkes,Turqs,elegants or splendids easy to breed and less aggressive compared to Red Rumps.

If you are just going to keep parrots in the 4th aviary then red-rumps would be a perfect choice.

They are hardy, free-breeders, have a beautiful call and come in a variety of colours.

Yes, they can be aggressive with other parrots but I have had no problems keeping them with finches in a reasonably sized aviary.

Their only negative is that like most Psephotus parrots they can be a bit flighty when disturbed.

The Neophemas suggested above are also good choices and less aggressive but I'd say the scarlet-chested parrots (splendids) are the least hardy of the 3, particularly with regards to coping with wet conditions.

The Bourkes and Rosas are pretty good together ....

OR you could go a little outside the square and run a small colony of Purple Crown Lorikeets ...little clowns they are ..

Finch breeder red rumps are a good choice I went to these after bourkes, budgies and cockateils. I had a smallish aviery flight and had one pair when young grew up and parents wanted to go down next season they showed their aggression. One pair I believe per flight and you'll be right. They are hardy and will cope with some bad weather. Diet is simple compared to lorikeets so yes these would be a good start to getting into big parrots.

Princess parrots (only cos I just got a pair lol) and turqs cos I love my pair and both are pretty peaceful, thinking about getting a pair of bourkes too

Yep Maz what nicer birds than Prinnies ...need a bit of a flight area though . Funny buggers too mine do duck noises thanks to the neighbours ducks lol

If you have the room and want a real character and something a bit different what about regents ....?

What else have I got ...Hoodeds or something really really nice Mulgas ????

Or Stanleys are a nice smaller Rosella , not aggressive ..

But back to your original question , yes Red Rumps are great little whistlers , nice to look at , active , easy to feed and breed quite well ...
