They are going OK in some areas but their range has been hugely diminished.E Orix wrote:Until recently I was of the impression that Stone Curlews were quite rare.
Following a recent holiday slightly north of Cairns I now realise that in that area it is not the case.
They were both very common and very noisy.Interesting bird though.

I was surprised to see them smack in the middle of the busy campsite at Edith Falls in July, surrounded by campers and motorhomes.

See a few of them every now and then around Seaworld carpark (on the Gold Coast)...not sure if they have chosen Seaworld as their home or are taking the kids out for the day to see the dolphins...Toast

These birds can become very tolerant of humans
A few years ago on a day trip to one of the Whitsunday Islands a couple of them were stationed in the seating area in the indoor/ outdoor cafeteria, moving between people, under and around tables
They had obviously worked out that it was a good spot for an easy and regular food supply
