I have recently had a hen build a nest and had been sitting on it for over a week with no eggs.
I had not witnessed any mating at all so I wasn't sure what was going on.
I decided upon some advice I received from a number of breeders to remove the nest and replace it with a new empty one.......
I replaced the nest yesterday and sure enough today there is an egg!
I immediately put back her original nest (lucky I kept it in tact) and placed the egg in this.
I hope this works out ok...the nest the egg was found in had no lining or material so I think swapping back to the fully furnished model was a good idea.
Just my luck (damn canaries)

It will be interesting to see if she does continue to lay her full clutch of eggs.
I have never had a hen sit on a nest for over a week without laying an egg.
I have 2 hens sitting in their nests tonight (first night after making their nests on Saturday and Sunday) and expect to see eggs tomorrow.
2 other hens have made their nests on the floor of their cage. I put the nest pan on the floor where they were making their nests and 1 has made it in the nest pan, the other wants nothing to do with a nest and keeps building on the floor. I bred this second hen last year and she was reared in a nest pan, so I have no idea why she doesn't want to make a nest in one.
