Canary Prices 2014

Hi all,

I would like to create a price list for canary varieties in Australia as I am sick of seeing middlemen trying to rip off beginners on Gumtree.

The prices below are what I would expect to pay for a young average quality club rung bird bought directly from a breeder.

As you can see I need a bit of help with this list, especially with the colour varieties. If everyone could post the average prices a breeder would charge for club rung stock in their area that would be great.

Agate.....................................................$20-$30
Australian Plainhead....................................$40
Border Fancy.............................................$35
Crest and Crestbred....................................$100-$150
Dimorphic...............................................$30 (Black Red Mosaic)
Fife Fancy................................................$15-$30
Fiorino Frill...............................................?
German Roller...........................................$20-40
Gloster Fancy............................................$15-$30
Ino........................................................$40 (Melbourne) $100 (Sydney)
Ivory......................................................$20-$22
Isabel.....................................................$20-30
Lancashire...............................................?
Lizard....................................................$20-30
North Dutch Frill........................................$80
Norwich Plainhead......................................$80-300
Opal......................................................$30
Pastel.....................................................?
Parisian Frill..............................................?
Red Black................................................$30
Red Border...............................................$35
Red Factor...............................................$35-$40
Rose......................................................?
Satinette................................................$20-30
Stafford.................................................$35
Yorkshire................................................$70-$100

Cheers

Red

Edited to add more prices

Hi Red,

Great idea but from my observations there is variation across the eastern seaboard.
For example, canaries seem on the whole much more expensive in Qld than they are in Victoria.
So this might be worth remembering when receiving prices from people in different areas.

That's why it would be great if we could get participation from as many states as possible.

If everyone would take the time to copy and paste the list and fill in what prices are typical in their area we could compare prices between regions etc.

I admit to being a Canary noob. I have no idea what many of the varieties listed look like (but would like to learn). Perhaps some of those suggesting prices could also post some pictures?

Hello All,

I must say, I have no idea with canary's, but when I went to one of the shows at the Seven Hills High School this year...a bird that did captivate me was the Lizards(?) with the orange or yellow skull cap...(not sure if it is a lizard, I'm sure that someone will enlighten me!)
They looked really cool & interesting, they actually seems to have some sort of atitiude....If I decided to play with canary's that's what I would like to focus on...I would love to work on intensifing the colour of the cap.

Just my thoughts....

Cheers

They sound like Lizards to me. The world could always use more Lizard breeders.

Sorry I took this comment the wrong way.

SamDavis, the site below is probably the best place to get a feel for what type canaries should look like. The Border varieties in Australia look very different to overseas birds but other than that a google image search should steer you right for the rest on the list:

Red, German roller $40-60 depending on quality of song and some breeders.
pariasin frill from $60
lizard $30
Australian plain head from $25
Red some of those breeds I haven't heard of here but only in books, nit saying there not but I couldn't even give you a rough price. I find that some people do charge more $$$ than others and some of it may be quality or even how rare some are.
