There were a number of Pekin Robins on the market a couple of months ago and the reason was a person decided to sell off his collection.
The relief is that most went to reputable breeders.
As for Magpie Robins,Danny is correct when I was breeding them a few years ago was driven mad by people only wanting the cockbirds as a singing
addition to their home. They couldn't careless about the rarity and the need for them for breeding, personally I think there are better singers than them anyway. SkyLarks are the best I have ever had sadly I can't locate any at the moment.

As for Skylarks David. We have dozens and dozens on our farm and as they are an introduced species you are free to come and catch them. Bring your traps and glue sticks.

I have a spare male skylark here if you want one - I can't get a hen for it.

Hold on to it because I think one of us could be lucky.
Try and come back tomorrow.

I've been after skylarks for a while, and called a man whose number I got from another forum member some months ago.
He said that he had none for sale, to call again in the new yearbecause he should have heaps in late summer.

I also tried to trap some (unsuccessfully) in the early spring. I asked the old Maltese men what I was doing wrong and was told to do it in the very early morning in summer, and that it was very difficult without a lure bird and very easy with one.
I'm intending to go out again with my kids during these school holidays.

Danny, if you want to send your skylark down here I'll post you a pair or two back (if I can catch them with the help of a lure bird).

E. orix, if I get on to some you are welcome to share as well.

No good with pekins but fledged three magpie robins so far, despite the drought that turned into a flood. She's back on eggs again.
