I have bred the odd goldfinch in the aviary though I am now trying them in cabinets for a change.

I have heard of people having greater success this way though I am not sure.

To me the birds seem to stress out more.

Can anyone give me some advice regarding the cage set up?

Food wise the guys are set.

I am currently keeping them in a canary sized breeder and have loaded it with tea tree so they have somewhere to hide. I have also attached tea tree on the outside to cover it up a little as I know they like this.

Any advice would be great thank!!

It is interesting you raised this topic, because it is specifically mentioned on most goldfinch cage breeding articles. Cover 1/3rd of the front of the cage to provide security. Often my friends would keep them in 3 Breeder cages, rather than 2 Breeder cages, to remove the male and give more privacy. Alternatively, keep 2 hens with a cock as above- but swapping the cock between hens (not both hens together)- he can get a bit aggressive/ skittish. Particularly if hybridising with canaries for mules.
