Hi

I was travelling in the USA for 6 weeks so left my trusty neighbour in charge of the aviary and returned to find 13 new babies. My friend is not sure which of the half dozen gouldians are the parents but this is the result!
I have red and black headed adults and I think the mother might have been black headed.
What intrigues me more than the whiteness is the pale orange beak - I have seen photos of other white birds but none with this colour beak. I wonder whether it is common or not?

Hi Misso - I'm in South Australia
None of the adults have any white at all on heads or throats and this is the first white bird in the 30 odd born so far.

I haven't heard of Australian Yellow but I admit I find the genetics very confusing. Would it mean that both parents have a recessive gene?

yes, some normal gouldians split for australian yellow dont show any sign of being split, so its still possible, a photo of the birds back will confirm

Looks like Australian Yellow, nice little one :) Misso is on the money..

I have had whole seasons before recessive genes have finally come though to tell me a bird has split parents, shortly before I want to wring the parents necks.

Questions. Does that bird have red or plumb coloured eyes? and Do you have blue or split blue in your Goulds? Because. It may be my eyes and the quality of the pic. But it looks like a red eyed white. Sooo You may have fluked an Albino. And that could also explain the paler beak.

Thank you all for your responses.
I don't think the eyes are red and when I took the attached photo I notice a small yellow patch on the chest, so I think it would not be called albino. I will post another photo showing its back which you suggest will confirm or not Australian Yellow.

Hi LML.You ask "Do you have blue or split blue in your Goulds?" Not that I know of. I have Red Heads who have only ever had red headed babies, and Black Heads which I think may have produced this white one. I will have to wait until the new chicks moult before I know if they have produced any Black Heads.
