Two male Cordon Bleus together - OK or not?

Hi

I have a lonely Cordon Bleu cock bird. I've been looking for a wife for him for ages but there are just no females around. So it occurs to me, should I give up and get a second male so he has company of his own kind? Would he appreciate that, or get stressed by it?

(Then of course I'll be looking for two hens, but never mind!)

I did exactly that, and they got on smashingly :)

When ever I have multiple cock bird cordons in an aviary they fight.

I've got spare Cordons in my holding cage. They're just starting to colour but I'm sure we could pick out a hen - too young to breed just yet.
Let me know if you're interested. At present I have a project I'm working on in the Lane Cove area so could possibly meet if that's better for you?

I wouldnt. Cordons can be surprisingly aggressive to their own sex (unlike most waxbills). Unless they grew up together. It is variable tho. It depends how big the aviary is aswell. Ive seen cordons in colonies, but when I tried it it led to disaster. A better bet would be an orange breast which get on with everyone. Pal them up in a cage, before releasing them into the aviary. & that may work.

Without hens in the aviary 2 males would be fine.

My two male got on so well that once I introduced a hen to them they showed no interest in her. They would preen each other, build nests together and roost together. Definetly the odd couple!

I have a big flight and there is upwards of 40 Cordons in it. Males constantly bicker and have vertical fights to the aviary roof then land and
then go on with feeding with no damage. As for 2 male birds no problem as far as I am concerned.
