I had a pair of cordons hatched out 4 babies on Saturday and today i noticed that the parents were not in the nest so i had a peek and there were no babies, no bodies on the ground they just vanished :(

Well if it were my aviary I'd say SNAKE however last week I had a visit from a bird club member and he reckons house geckos will eat hatchlings. I haven't come across it myself but since you're in Brisbane it's not out of the question.

I have heard of this and find it hard to believe but if this was the case it would be impossible to stop them getting into the aviary

what age are the parents, cordons are notorious for abandoning nests & for dragging the babies out and dumping them anywhere in the aviary (learnt the hard way). if you have quail in the aviary they will eat any baby finch that they can get hold of (or is that just mine).
hope you can find a trace of the young somewhere always nice to have an answer of some sort

Hey Mick, it could be there first time, i don't have any quails and no trace of the young, both parents were even eating plenty of meal worms

unless they have started laying again I would be thinking about pulling the nest to pieces and searching through it. other than that only thing to do is scratch your head till hair falls out & pray they try another clutch
