Not much recent breeding experience available in Australia with them. They are pretty much gone here now.

Nothing to add other than a clarification of the bird. Erythrura pealii - Fiji parrotfinch.

Using scientific names certainly helps with language barriers, but is even more confusing with spelling errors.

Cheers Ian

Hello Gustavo.
Maybe an idea to ask this question on some European bird forums in view of the earlier reply.

They are apparently reasonably easy to breed in cages of 50 x 50 x 100 cm. also several pairs in one flight is ok.
The difference between cock bird and hen is the more intense head colour; also the blue haze on the chest is more intense in the cock bird.

Life food is apparently essential during the raising of young.
They are not that hardy and need to be brought indoors with a minimum temparature of 15C in winter.
All this info through a friend in The Netherlands.

cheers, Case, Tauranga, New Zealand.

Well in this case the mispelling is well explained and excused, since from latin "pealii" = of Peale (who was a naturalist) while "paelli" = of paella (which is a traditional Iberian recipe) , Gustavo just made a Freudian slip :)

ciao

Stavros/Gustavo - sorry if we upset you. It's just the Aussie sence of humour, to make light of little mistakes that are not important because what is meant is understood anyway. :flower: I also think Case has been helpful and hope that if you do decide to get a pair of these birds all goes well for you.
