I have managed to grow some Niger flowers for my siskins, when should I pick? And how do I feed them?

As soon as the petals drop is perfect to pick bunches of flowers for the soft green seed for them. As good as any treat available for Siskins.

Aah sweet, I'll give it a shot.

The Niger has been the easiest to grow so far.

I thought it was hard to get to germinate?

What was your secret?
\Mind you I have never tried I have just heard it was hard to get it to sprout due to being zapped.

Locally grown Niger comes from Kununurra WA.

From what I understand it is no longer grown there because of the low demand. The last lot from there was bought by Ray and Wendy Lowe, but again because of the low demand for this seed Ray told me last September he will not be doing it again.
I purchased some Niger in WA last year but it was as dead as a doornail.

cheers, Case.

Peter Slade at Quirindi NSW grew some last summer. It was available for $7/kg. Sprouts & grows very well.
