Well this is the final update on this attempt . The two remaining eggs never hatched both were fertile and appear to have died due to the heat, only a small amount of yolk left . On the 23rd the chick had been tossed and was found dead on the floor 10 meters away , Cause of death unknown . On a brighter side they have almost finished a new nest on Saturday the 26th . Here we go again !!the joy of finch breeding .

Going by what is happening with my Red Crested I think they are or should I say their eggs don't seem to be able to
stand high temp. and low humidity. From my last Red crested nests holding 10 eggs between them zero have hatched yet all eggs
were fertile and dead in the shell. Maybe the 2 nests now may hatch as we have only had cool peak temp. to 36c
As I was writing this I realise that most of my large successful nests in past seasons have been very early with large clutches fledging in Oct/Nov
maybe near winter maybe a better time. I guess time will tell.

I had the same issue - 6 lost clutches - all good fertility, died near pipping.E Orix wrote:Going by what is happening with my Red Crested I think they are or should I say their eggs don't seem to be able to

Good Arthur , They had three eggs hatched all three , one disappeared soon after hatching, one remaining chick fledged on Tuesday and one still in the nest it’s smaller than the first . fingers crossed.
