I have only had two black head yellow backs before. The other one was sent to a friend and was only here a short time. This bird has a deep yellow like most cocks and the occasional hen.It has a very slight blue hint under the chin but defiantly not around the head.It is about the size of a good hen. Also it is one of the late bloomers from last season. Is it a good hen ? or a under developed cock ?

Not sure how you managed to post such an enormous image but here's a cropped version...

I'm not sure of it's sex (bit to blurry) but if I was forced to choose I'd probably say hen.

Off topic Gomer, but how were you able to place such a large photograph of a cage, with such a small bird in it?
cheers, Case

Gommer, with a bird like that, put a hen with it and see if it crows and if it doesn't it's a hen and vise versa with a cock. Craig

I have two looking exactly the same but with yellow heads. They are dead set hens. The cocks sing to them and they are receptive. Other cocks come and interrupt the display but she doesn't move and watches the new boy trying to do his best. Fell for the same thing last year. Their beak stays red rather than turning dark grey/black. Threw me off completely. Nice birds by the way!
