Alright so i came home today with my Gouldian Finch hen on the floor, luckily i got her in time and i put her in a hospital cage and got her near heat.
I was thinking it could be egg binding.
But im not an experienced breeder and would love advice from the fellow finch lovers

Sounds like egg binding. I just saved a hen from this recently. I used a feeding syringe to administer some cod liver oil into the mouth of the hen.

The next day she passed the egg and was as good as gold

I would be very careful putting any type of oil down the throat of any bird just incase it gets into its lungs.
If you must use oil I guess you can do what the oldies did and paint WARM oil direct to the vent with a small paint brush.
Personally I am of the opinion that warmth and quiet will generally save the day provided the female is not too exhausted.
Quiet doesn't mean sticking your face into the box to check on the bird every 5 min.If it is warm,access to food and water then
you don't need to pester it.Time does wonders.

I cant remember where I read it, but it is documented somewhere. This has worked for me on two occasions so far. I have also lost a hen when I did not intervene, so who knows what actually worked..

maybe it was just luck?

I dont like disturbing my birds too much anyway, if i was to put oil on the vent, would vegetable oil be just as good because that is all i have access to?
I dont want to take the risk of putting it down the throat just incase it goes in the lungs

I'd save the oil for something else. Just put the bird in a carry box in a warm room or heated hospital cage over night. If you find an egg-bound bird early enough & catch it calmly & gently, this will work every time.

I agree with Tiaris.
Prodding around the bird's vent is usually useless and can cause problems if you are not careful.
Heat/quiet & humidity (dish of water in warm cage) are usually enough.

Okay, well she is looking a lot better than when she was in the aviary. Still fluffed up so we will see tomorrow.
