Can some give me a good reason why you would breed something like this http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... =1&theater

They're very proud of it Tint. It took years of careful breeding, selecting only the strongest individuals, and with a controlled combination of inbreeding and outcrossing have now established the mutation. After all, it's not about the looks, it's about the challenge and the improvements in aviculture.

IMPROVEMENTS? ????? So why did they not take a sparrow and make it rainbow coloured? That would be an improvement. (In my humble opinion)
Whoever took the pic forgot to put coloured film in the camera. If you want to see that, take a black and white photo. Saves time. It irks me that they take our spectacularly coloured birds and do this to them. What's next pure white or beige?

I am with you Tintola but where does one draw the line?
I am uberhaupt not in favour of any kind of mutation, full stop!
The washed out Gouldian colours one sees in Europe> the pied fires in Australia? do any of these colours enhance the species. I think not, but there are plenty of others who enjoy the mutations and mules.
To each their own.
Cheers, Case

i can only agree....hardly an improvement ...years of "dedication" wasted imo.
the gene pool for most captive birds seems tainted with mutation/splits for one thing or another.
long live the "normal" strain of our birds, far and away the best.
some keepers need a challenge to stay keen....try building up numbers of the harder to breed species or those that need a hand.
more and more species are becoming affected....try buying a "normal" star finch, it will most likely have cinnamon etc through it.
Ruddies, cordons, parrotfinches all the same....dont get me started on gouldians....long live the pure strains.
Personally i would rather keep a brown/grey normal specie(mask, yellowrump, pictorella) than a "colourful" mutation.
i understand whatever drives or excites you is a good thing but to me the pollution has to stop.
will climb down off soapbox now....
