Gannets in Portland

I had the pleasure of experiencing a visit to what I have been told is the only breeding colony of gannets on mainland Australia. With a few fallow AFF members yesterday. The Islands in the back ground are the main colonies. After they both fill up the remaining birds have the closest point to the old volcano (Point Danger)fortunately the foxes have managed to get around the fence at low tide and there is only two young left this season. In the last photo we were down wind and when all the birds took flight they gave us something to remember them.A lovely shower of appreciation of the visit.

great photos Gomer, what an awesome experience! Only Australian gannet I've ever seen was almost a kilometre off the coast, diving for fish among caspian terns. Love to visit a colony one day
