We are nearly finished a new aviary that will house finches. This will be a mixed species flight. Is there any finches or combinations of finches that dont do well in a mixed species flight.
Cheers Melissa.

Definitely not rarer species! Cup nesters do not do well with cavity nesters especially not in a smaller Aviary. More aggressive species like Saffron Finches, Crested Finches, etc. Parrots or hookbills in general do not mix with Finches, they will often snap a toe or two or even a leg from under them. I know many people do but I wouldn't keep Quail with finches, firstly they produce lots of large droppings and secondly any of the young finches that fall down often gets killed by over aggressive Quails.

The size of the new aviary, your local climatic conditions, materials used to construct the aviary etc and your own personal choice in birds will all help determine the type of finch species suitable, including their compatibility, for your new aviary.
Do you have any photos of the aviary?
With the extra information requested most people will be able to help you on identifying a list of suitable birds.

Link to a finch compatibility chart, this will give some guidelines. You can always check with here for some final tweaking of your list from the forum members experiences. Armed with this information if trouble does happen in your aviary because of one or two birds natures not following "normal protocol" you can at least be sure you did your homework.

Ok .Sorry should have provided some details to start with

Avairy is a steel frame suspended floor. 3 meters in length. 2 meters high. 2.2 meters wide. We are in Cairns in the far north.
As far as finch species im am pretty much open to anything at this stage but like the look of painted's, parrot finches, cordons, stars and the list goes on..
Cheers Melissa.

Looking for the same thing! Thanks- just answered a number of questions. This link should be a sticky somewhere. (if it already isn't.)
